Description
Delicious cheddar puff pastry twists perfect as an appetizer or snack!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, defrosted but still cold (10 x 10 inches)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 1/3 cups shredded white cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus extra for topping
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth it out. Brush with the egg wash.
- Sprinkle evenly with white cheddar, black pepper, and a pinch of salt if using. Lightly press the cheese into the pastry with a rolling pin.
- Fold the pastry in half, then roll gently to seal. Cut into 1/2-inch strips using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
- Twist each strip several times and place on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with more egg wash and sprinkle with extra pepper.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown and puffed. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, try adding herbs like thyme or oregano to the cheese mixture.
- These twists can be made ahead and frozen, then baked straight from the freezer.
