These spiced molasses cookies are a delicious treat with a perfect blend of spices.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ginger
Instructions
- Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg, and molasses.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger.
- Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients. Chill dough for 1 hour.
- Roll into balls the size of large walnuts.
- Dip top of dough ball in sugar.
- Place 3″ apart on greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Notes
- Chilling the dough helps the cookies maintain their shape while baking.
- These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
