- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 cup cherries (fresh or canned)
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease heart-shaped cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and melted butter. Combine with dry ingredients until just mixed.
- Pour batter into pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Slice each cake in half horizontally, layer with whipped cream and cherries, then stack. Top with more whipped cream and cherries.
Notes
- Ensure the cherries are pitted if using fresh.
- For a richer flavor, consider using dark chocolate cocoa powder.
