Description
Delicious guava and cream cheese pastry made with flaky puff pastry.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 6 oz guava paste, sliced or cubed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water (to thin egg wash)
- 1 tbsp coarse sugar (optional topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven according to puff pastry package instructions.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface.
- Cut the pastry into squares and place a mixture of cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla in the center of each.
- Add a piece of guava paste on top.
- Beat the edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush the tops with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake until golden brown.
Notes
- Keep the pastry cold: Warm puff pastry loses its layers and won’t puff properly. If it starts getting soft, pop it back in the fridge for a few minutes.
- Don’t overfill: Guava expands when hot. A moderate amount gives the best clean bite without bursting.
- Seal the edges well: Press firmly with a fork to prevent leaking and give a classic look.
- Only brush the tops with egg wash: Avoid brushing the sealed edges to ensure proper sealing.
- If using jam instead of paste: Freeze small scoops for 10 minutes before baking to prevent leaking.
