Description
A cozy and spiced gingerbread chai latte perfect for the holidays.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1/2 tablespoon light molasses (or 1 tbsp dark brown sugar)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon gingerbread spice mix (or 1/8 tsp each ginger, cinnamon, cloves, allspice/nutmeg)
- 1/4 cup milk of choice (for foam)
- 1 teabag black tea (or 1 teaspoon loose leaf black tea)
- 1/4 cup hot water
Instructions
- Combine and heat 1 cup milk of choice, 1/2 tablespoon light molasses, 1/2 teaspoon gingerbread spice mix, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Use a milk frother or whisk in a saucepan on the stove until hot, but not boiling.
- If heating milk on the stove, you can steep the tea leaves/bag at the same time. Otherwise make a concentrated tea ‘shot’ by steeping 1 teabag black tea in 1/4 cup hot water for 3-5 minutes.
- Separately whisk 1/4 cup milk of choice until foamy. Pour the gingerbread spice milk into a mug and top with the milk foam.
- Remove and squeeze out the tea bag, or strain the tea leaves. Pour the black tea shot on top of the spiced milk and foam to complete the gingerbread chai latte. Dust with a touch more gingerbread spice.
Notes
- This recipe can be adapted for non-dairy milk alternatives.
- Adjust the sweetness to taste if using dark brown sugar instead of molasses.
