Description

This Festive Gingerbread Cake Delight is rich in spices and perfect for the holiday season. It features a moist gingerbread cake topped with whipped cream or frosting and decorated with a gingerbread cookie.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 gingerbread cookie for decoration
  • Optional: whipped cream or frosting for decoration
  • Optional: edible decorations like sprinkles or candy

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar
In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the molasses and vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. Add Egg
Beat in the egg until fully incorporated.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the Cake
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Decorate
Once cooled, spread a layer of whipped cream or frosting on top of the cake. Decorate with a gingerbread cookie in the center and add any additional edible decorations as desired.

Notes

  • For a more intense ginger flavor, increase the ground ginger to 1 1/2 teaspoons.
  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before mixing for a smoother batter.
  • Use freshly grated nutmeg for a richer flavor.
  • The decoration can be customized for any festive occasion by changing up the colors and shapes of the frosting and candies.
