Description
This deep dish pizza is loaded with pepperoni, jalapeños, and gooey mozzarella cheese for a delicious twist on a classic dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup sliced pepperoni
- 1/2 cup pickled jalapeño slices
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon cornmeal (for dusting the pan)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Prepare the Topping: In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- Assemble the Pizza: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the risen dough and roll it out to fit a deep-dish pizza pan. Grease the pan and sprinkle with cornmeal. Press the dough into the pan and up the sides to create a crust. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough. Layer with half the mozzarella cheese, ground beef, jalapeño slices, and pepperoni. Add another layer of mozzarella cheese on top. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, oregano, and garlic powder.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Serve: Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve hot.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, pre-bake the crust for 5-7 minutes before adding the toppings.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of jalapeños for desired spiciness.
- If you don’t have a deep-dish pan, a cast-iron skillet works great too.
- Experiment with different cheeses like provolone or cheddar for more flavor variety.
