Description

Delicious cranberry orange sweet rolls that are perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • ½ teaspoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until it’s foamy and bubbly.
  2. Add the melted butter, eggs, and salt. Stir to combine, then gradually add in the flour. Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until soft, smooth, and elastic.
  3. Transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, combine the cranberries, sugar, orange juice, and orange zest in a saucepan. Cook until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens, about 10 minutes. Let it cool completely.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12×18-inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then evenly spread the cranberry filling on top.
  6. Starting from the long side, roll the dough up tightly into a log. Slice into 12 equal pieces and arrange in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let the rolls rise again for about 30–45 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, until golden on top.
  8. While the rolls are still warm, whisk together the powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest. Drizzle over the rolls and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can make the cranberry filling ahead and refrigerate it overnight if needed.
  • Serve the rolls warm for the best flavor and texture.
