Description

Delicious and cheesy garlic breadsticks, perfect for dipping in marinara sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (thinly sliced)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons warm water (110°F, divided)
  • 1 egg yolk (lightly beaten)
  • 1 3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted, divided)
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • for dipping marinara sauce

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in 2 tablespoons of warm water. Let sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture with remaining warm water, sugar, salt, butter slices, egg yolk, and flour. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick. Brush with half of the melted butter.
  7. Sprinkle mozzarella evenly over the dough, then fold the dough over to enclose the cheese and press edges lightly.
  8. Cut dough into sticks, then place on the prepared baking sheet. Brush tops with remaining melted butter, and sprinkle with parmesan, garlic salt, and oregano.
  9. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  10. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure the water is warm but not hot to keep the yeast active.
  • For a garlic butter variation, mix minced garlic into the melted butter before brushing on the dough.
